The property $section was declared of type string, but false is of type false. Maybe add a type cast?

This check looks for assignments to scalar types that may be of the wrong type.

To ensure the code behaves as expected, it may be a good idea to add an explicit type cast.

The assignment to $reset is unused. Consider omitting it like so list($first,,$third).

This checks looks for assignemnts to variables using the list(...) function, where not all assigned variables are subsequently used.

Consider the following code example.

<?php

function returnThreeValues() {
    return array('a', 'b', 'c');
}

list($a, $b, $c) = returnThreeValues();

print $a . " - " . $c;

Only the variables $a and $c are used. There was no need to assign $b.

Instead, the list call could have been.

list($a,, $c) = returnThreeValues();

It seems like $pageObj can be null; however, makeParserOptions() does not accept null, maybe add an additional type check?

Unless you are absolutely sure that the expression can never be null because of other conditions, we strongly recommend to add an additional type check to your code:

/** @return stdClass|null */
function mayReturnNull() { }

function doesNotAcceptNull(stdClass $x) { }

function withoutCheck() {

It seems like $this->getSectionContent...t, 'r' . $rev->getId()) can also be of type boolean. However, the property $content is declared as type object<Content>. Maybe add an additional type check?

Our type inference engine has found a suspicous assignment of a value to a property. This check raises an issue when a value that can be of a mixed type is assigned to a property that is type hinted more strictly.

For example, imagine you have a variable $accountId that can either hold an Id object or false (if there is no account id yet). Your code now assigns that value to the id property of an instance of the Account class. This class holds a proper account, so the id value must no longer be false.

Either this assignment is in error or a type check should be added for that assignment.

class Id
{
    public $id;

    public function __construct($id)
    {
        $this->id = $id;
    }

}

class Account
{
    /** @var  Id $id */
    public $id;
}

$account_id = false;

if (starsAreRight()) {
    $account_id = new Id(42);
}

$account = new Account();
if ($account instanceof Id)
{
    $account->id = $account_id;

It seems like $this->getSectionContent...Obj->getPrefixedText()) can also be of type boolean.

Either this assignment is in error or a type check should be added for that assignment.

class Id
{
    public $id;

    public function __construct($id)
    {
        $this->id = $id;
    }

}

class Account
{
    /** @var  Id $id */
    public $id;
}

$account_id = false;

if (starsAreRight()) {
    $account_id = new Id(42);
}

$account = new Account();
if ($account instanceof Id)
{
    $account->id = $account_id;
}

Unless you are absolutely sure that the expression can never be null because of other conditions, we strongly recommend to add an additional type check to your code:

It seems like $lb->constructSet('page', $db) targeting LinkBatch::constructSet() can also be of type boolean; however, Database::select() does only seem to accept string, maybe add an additional type check?

This check looks at variables that are passed out again to other methods.

If the outgoing method call has stricter type requirements than the method itself, an issue is raised.

An additional type check may prevent trouble.

The expression $res of type boolean|object<ResultWrapper> is not guaranteed to be traversable. How about adding an additional type check?

There are different options of fixing this problem.

  1. If you want to be on the safe side, you can add an additional type-check:

    $collection = json_decode($data, true);
    if ( ! is_array($collection)) {
        throw new \RuntimeException('$collection must be an array.');
    }

    foreach ($collection as $item) { /** ... */ }

  2. If you are sure that the expression is traversable, you might want to add a doc comment cast to improve IDE auto-completion and static analysis:

    /** @var array $collection */
    $collection = json_decode($data, true);

    foreach ($collection as $item) { /** .. */ }

  3. Mark the issue as a false-positive: Just hover the remove button, in the top-right corner of this issue for more options.
